Matteo,

as Axel  already very gently remarked one would need a little bit more 
explanation to find out the problem.

This type of thing  can be due not only to the code, nor the machine  or 
the interaction of the 2 - but sometimes also to the user - this is why 
more information is needed - 

from what  I can understand  from what you write - I suggest  to run with 
the the following  env setting :  BGLMPI_APP_L1_WRITEBACK_RECOVERY=1 -

Does anyone of you know what's that exit code about?

I'm experiencing this behavior of cpmd only on BG/L
where none of the output files is gracefully closed.
