Thank you for the quick reply.  Apple now points one to the Intel
Fortran Compiler
(http://www.intel.com/cd/software/products/asmo-na/eng/compilers/fmac/26
7426.htm) You may be familiar with Linux version of it.

Any guidance/pointers would be greatly appreciated.

the main question is here: 
what fortran compiler do want to use or have available?

one will need to do a little tweaking of the 
preprocessor flags and hack some pieces of the 
sources to make everything work nicely, since
the macosx related flags currently assume a
powerpc cpu and particularly the ibm compiler
with all its idiosyncrasies.
