CPMD should run out-of-the box on dec-alpha. we are using it here on the
TCS machine in pittsburgh: http://www.psc.edu/machines/tcs/lemieux.html

can you please elaborate. which version of cpmd, what are the changed
makefile flags, OS and compiler versions etc.

cxml is the 'compaq extended math library', it was named dxml on older
dec machines. this is a separate package and needs to be licensend and
installed. if you can't get that, you may want to replace it by another
package that provides BLAS/LAPACK functionality (e.g. ATLAS. or -- with
a significant performance penalty -- plain BLAS/LAPACK from the netlib
sources).
